Today, Heartland Family Service CEO John Jeanetta and HFS Community Relations designer Peter Bejmuk wore their vyshyvankas โ traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts โ in recognition of International Vyshyvanka Day.
For Ukrainians around the world, the vyshyvanka is a powerful symbol of heritage, resilience, and hope. Here in eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa, it is also a reminder of the Ukrainian families who have become part of our broader community, including those rebuilding their lives after fleeing war.
Since 2009, Heartland Family Service has hosted 40 Ukrainian delegates participating in the Open World Leadership Center, a program of the Congressional Office of International Leadership, and is honored to support individuals and families from many backgrounds as they seek safety, stability, and a path forward.
