Today is Lou Gehrig Day.

Nearly 85 years after Lou Gehrig’s ALS diagnosis, his legacy continues to bring awareness to a disease that still affects thousands of families each year. While much has changed since his famous farewell speech, the courage, strength, and determination shown by people living with ALS remain the same.

In recognition of Lou Gehrig Day, we’re featuring this framed Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth print from our 2026 Golf Classic Silent Auction.

The online silent auction is open now and will remain open until the end of the golf tournament on June 26th. All proceeds support local families affected by ALS throughout our service area. 💙

Whether you're joining us for a walk, a golf tournament, a fundraiser, or simply helping spread the word, every event helps support local families living with ALS.

📍 North Platte friends — Join us at Lake Maloney on June 5 for the Twilight Run. We're excited to be part of this event and grateful for the support it will provide to local families living with ALS.

📍 Grand Island friends — Stop by Chick-fil-A Conestoga Marketplace on June 5 for our Dine to Donate fundraiser, then join us at the Tri-Cities Area Walk at Sucks Lake on June 7!

📍 Lincoln friends — We're honored to be the beneficiary of the John Henry's Charity Classic at Woodland Hills Golf Course on June 13!

📍 Papillion friends — Also on June 13, McKean's Floor to Ceiling will host their 4th Annual Golf Benefit at Tara Hills Golf Course.

📍 Omaha friends — Our annual ALS in the Heartland Golf Classic returns to Tiburon Golf Club on June 26. This event has become one of our favorite days of the year, and we can't wait to welcome golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters.

We're looking forward to a great month and hope to see many of you along the way. Thank you for supporting local families affected by ALS!

ALS Awareness Month is ultimately about people.

It’s about listening to experiences, learning more about the realities of the disease, and creating a stronger sense of support and community for those affected by ALS. The more awareness grows, the more opportunities there are for connection, advocacy, research, and care.

Thank you for taking the time this month to learn, engage, and help keep conversations about ALS going. 💙

For many individuals living with ALS, being able to stay in their home for as long as possible means everything. 💙

Through our Mission Possible to Mission Success Capital Campaign, we are working to create dedicated garage and equipment storage space that will strengthen how ALS in the Heartland delivers equipment and support throughout our service area.

From accessible vans to medical equipment and mobility resources, this project will help us more efficiently get important items into the hands of the individuals and families who need them most.

Every part of this campaign is designed with one goal in mind: creating a stronger, more accessible future for those living with ALS.

As ALS Awareness Month continues, one of the most important things to remember is that ALS is never just a diagnosis.

Behind every diagnosis is a person with goals, relationships, routines, memories, and people who care deeply about them. Every family’s experience with ALS looks different, but compassion, support, and understanding can make a meaningful difference along the way.

Thank you for helping us continue conversations, share awareness, and recognize the individuals and families impacted by ALS this month and beyond. 💙
