📣Public Announcement: Shared Housing Initiative Update

At Metro Housing Collaborative, a division of ReImagine, our mission has always been rooted in innovation, collaboration, and meeting housing needs with integrity.

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to place our Shared Housing Initiative on temporary hold.

This decision was not made lightly. Shared Housing has been an important strategy in helping individuals reduce housing costs, build stability, and access safe, affordable living arrangements. However, in order to operate this initiative responsibly and with the level of support participants deserve, it requires dedicated staffing capacity.

At this time, our current team does not have the bandwidth to sustain the program at the standard of excellence we hold ourselves to. Growing our capacity requires additional funding — and as many of our partners know, the funding landscape is highly competitive right now. We are actively pursuing every viable opportunity to secure the resources needed to relaunch this initiative stronger and more sustainable.

This pause allows us to:

Protect the quality and integrity of our services

Ensure participants receive the support they deserve

Strategically position the program for long-term sustainability

We remain deeply committed to innovative housing solutions and to expanding options that prevent homelessness and increase affordability. Shared Housing is still part of our vision — and we are working diligently behind the scenes to create the conditions necessary for its return.

We are grateful for our partners, property owners, funders, and community members who continue to stand with us as we navigate this evolving funding climate. Your continued support helps us strengthen the trajectory of housing stability in our community.

In 2025, Jalei Thomas exemplified what it means to show up for community with consistency, compassion, and excellence. As Metro Housing Collaborative’s Housing Navigator, Jalei played a critical role in breaking down housing barriers for hundreds of community members across the metro.

Throughout the year, Jalei responded to 317 housing search referrals, providing individualized support to households navigating some of the most complex housing challenges. 🙌 She led the facilitation of five RentWise cohorts, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools needed to be successful, informed tenants. Jalei also supported MHC’s Shared Housing Initiative, helping expand creative and affordable housing solutions for those with limited options.

Jalei was instrumental in rehousing CityView tenants during a community housing crisis, providing stability during a time of uncertainty. She assisted with the planning and ex*****on of MHC’s annual Landlord and Property Manager Workshop, strengthening relationships with property partners and advancing housing stability system-wide. Beyond Omaha, Jalei represented MHC by serving on the HSAC Committee in Council Bluffs, ensuring cross-community collaboration and regional impact.

Her work extended to hands-on support with assisting with rental applications, facilitating furniture referrals, and staying consistently up-to-date on community resources so that each household received informed, timely guidance. Jalei’s dedication, attention to detail, and deep care for people shine through in every aspect of her work.

Metro Housing Collaborative is incredibly grateful and deeply appreciative of Jalei Thomas and the meaningful contributions she made in 2025. Her work continues to strengthen our housing ecosystem and positively change the trajectory of countless lives👏.
