🌲 In honor of National Trails Day, this Saturday, June 6th, is a Fee-Free Day!🌲

National Trails Day is all about celebrating the places we love to explore and giving back to the trails that connect us to our public lands. It’s the perfect chance to enjoy your favorite hike, discover a new trail, or join others in helping keep our forest welcoming and accessible.

Take the Pledge by visiting https://americanhiking.org/national-trails-day/ and commit to leaving the trails better than you found them.

Additional exciting news, the north loop of Falls View Campground south of Quilcene has officially re‑opened. After completing necessary work to address safety issues, our crews also took the opportunity to freshen up the area with additional maintenance and beautification.

The Olympic National Forest is seeking interest in future recreation concession opportunities across the forest. This Request for Expressed Interest (RFEI) includes several sites, such as the historic Hamma Hamma, Interrorem, and Louella Cabins, as well as multiple locations in the Quinault recreation area, including Falls Creek Campground and Day Use Area, Gatton Creek Campground, the Quinault Rainforest Trailhead, Quinault Visitor Center, and Willaby Campground.

Responses will help the Forest determine whether to issue a prospectus and guide decisions on permit quantities, site selection, and the types of services that may be offered in the future. Submissions are due by close of business on July 1, 2026.

The Forest is committed to supporting an enjoyable and high‑quality recreation experience for all visitors. To learn more, please visit: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r06/olympic/permits/request-expressed-interest

🌲❄️ Planning a trip into the forest this weekend? Be aware that a winter weather advisory is in effect. ❄️🌲

Late-season snow showers are expected in the mountains above 4,000 feet today through Saturday night. Expect cold conditions in the mountains, some showers may include lightning and small hail.

🚗⚠️⚡️🌧️Know your plan for seeking shelter and how quickly you can get to safety if conditions change. Stay safe and check current weather conditions before heading out.

We've got mountain snow and thunder in the forecast for the next couple of days and a Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for mid-day today through Sunday morning for the Cascades and Olympics above 4000 feet.

Going camping? You are NOT safe from lightning in a tent. Avoid standing under trees. Find a sturdy building for shelter. If you can’t find one and are near your hard-topped vehicle, shelter in it with the windows up.
