Beginning May 4, 2026, this page will be temporarily inactive until after the November general election.

During election years, there are restrictions on how state resources can be used for communication—including social media. That means this page will not be updated and comments will be turned off during this period.

But the work doesn’t stop.

I’ll continue working on the issues I’m hearing from folks across Spokane’s 3rd District—like affordability, housing, healthcare, and childcare—and preparing for the next legislative session.

If you have questions, need assistance, or want to share what’s impacting you and your family, please reach out to my office directly. I’d love to hear from you.

Investing in Spokane means investing in people.

This session, our 3rd Legislative District delegation worked together to bring resources home—supporting housing, behavioral health, youth programs, health care training, and Spokane’s arts and culture community.

These are the kinds of investments that strengthen neighborhoods, expand opportunity, and make a real difference for families across our community.

Proud to be part of the team delivering for Spokane.

I have received numerous messages about protecting our neighbors. I hear you. You have shared heart-breaking stories about families who have been impacted by immigration enforcement over the last 15 months.

While there are strict limits to how the state can respond to activity by federal agencies, the Legislature has taken action on a package of bills to address these concerns.

These bills passed both chambers and were signed into law:
HB 2165: Peace officer false identification
SB 5855: Law enforcement face coverings
SB 6002: Driver privacy
HB 2105: Immigrant workers
HB 2411: Shared leave

This week’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to weaken the federal Voting Rights Act is deeply concerning and damaging to our democracy. The Voting Rights Act was hard fought and won through the leadership and sacrifice of Black Americans and communities of color, and it has long served as a cornerstone of fair and competitive elections in our country.

While the full impacts are still unfolding, one thing is clear, it introduces real uncertainty for voting rights protections here in Washington state, especially for communities that have historically faced barriers to the ballot.

We anticipated moments like this.

Flashback to 2025: At about this time last year, the Legislature successfully passed Rent Stabilization, HB 1217 – a major step forward in protecting renters in Washington!
Renters now benefit from:
✔️Rent increases for residential tenants capped at 7% plus inflation – with no hike exceeding 10%.
✔️A rent hike cap of 5% for manufactured home owners.
✔️90-day notice on rent increases of any kind.

Landlords and developers also benefit through:
✔️An exemption on new construction 12 years or newer.
✔️A landlord resource center.

I am thrilled that the legislature has sent rent stabilization to the governor. It isn’t everything we wanted, but it is a major step forward in protecting renters in this state. I want to thank Sen. Emily Alvarado and Representative Nicole Macri for their tireless work on this bill. Because of them, renters in Washington will see:

• Rent increases for residential tenants capped at 7% plus inflation – with no hike exceeding 10%.
• A rent hike cap of 5% for manufactured home owners.
• 90-day notice on rent increases of any kind.

Landlords and developers will get:
• An exemption on new construction 12 years or newer.
• A landlord resource center.

If the game is rigged, people stop believing in it.

That’s true in sports—and it’s true in democracy.

That’s why I was proud to support HB 1750, legislation to strengthen Washington’s Voting Rights Act and help protect communities from voter suppression and vote dilution.

Too often, unfair election systems silence voters and weaken representation. This bill sets clearer standards for identifying discriminatory practices and puts impact over intent—because communities should not have to prove someone’s motives to challenge unfair outcomes.

Voting rights are too important to take for granted. We must defend them.
