Washington State Legislative Internship Program

Washington State Legislative Internship Program The Legislative Internship Program is an immersive learning experience which brings college students to Olympia to work as paid staff for state lawmakers.

Interns are placed with legislators' offices and work in Olympia as full-time staff while the Legislature is in session (January through March or April every year). In addition to their office work, interns take part in hands-on activities including training in legislative ethics, writing and research, a budget exercise, mock committee hearings and floor debate, and a job shadow at a state agency.

Interns also participate in seminars and workshops with state officials, policymakers, journalists, and lobbyists, offering networking opportunities and a global view of the political process. This page is operated by the non-partisan Civic Education programs of the Washington State Senate and House of Representatives. Posts do not imply political endorsement and may not be used for campaign or lobbying purposes. Engagement with Civic Education accounts must conform to ethics restrictions and all legislative policies prohibiting political advocacy and campaigning. Comments and re-use of content that violate these guidelines will be deleted or blocked.
