While we aren't experiencing wildfire smoke in Thurston County right now, these are great reminders as we head into summer fire season. 🌲🔥

Wildfire smoke can travel long distances and impact air quality, even when skies appear clear.

Be prepared:
✅ Refill medications
✅ Gather needed supplies
✅ Plan for cleaner indoor air
✅ Know who to call for help

Having a plan now can help reduce stress and keep your family safe if smoke affects our area.

Smoke Ready Week, Day 4: Keep a Plan

Wildfire smoke travels thousands of miles from its source. Even if the skies look clear, tiny particles in smoke — called PM2.5 — can still reach your area and impact your health. Children, older adults, and people with asthma, heart disease, or other health conditions are especially vulnerable.

• Protect yourself and your family by planning ahead:
• Refill essential medications
• Gather any specialized equipment you might need
• Have an evacuation plan that includes a cleaner air space
• Know who to call for help

You may never need to use your plan, but having one reduces stress and keeps you ready.

Warm Weather Safety Reminder ☀️

We may see some of the warmest temperatures of the year so far tomorrow before conditions cool down a bit later in the week. As temperatures rise, take a few simple steps to stay safe and healthy:

Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

Seek shade and cool spaces! Take breaks indoors or in shaded areas when spending time outside.

Check on vulnerable family members and pets – Ensure children, older adults, and pets have access to water and cool environments.

Enjoy the sunshine, stay cool, and take care of yourself and those around you during this warm spell!

Temperatures will warm up across the area through Tuesday, however the water temperatures across western Washington remain cold! Make sure to always wear a life jacket in & around the water. Keep a close eye on children & pets near the water as well.

June is Pet Preparedness Month! 🐾

Disasters can happen anytime, so it’s important to have a plan for your pets too. Make sure your furry, feathered, or scaled family members are ready by preparing a pet emergency kit, practicing evacuations, and identifying pet-friendly shelter options ahead of time.

Keep pets on leashes or in carriers during emergencies
Store a two-week supply of food, water, and medications
Keep vaccination records, ID tags, and microchip information updated
Include comfort items, first aid supplies, and cleanup items in your pet go-kit
Never leave pets behind during an evacuation

After an emergency, give pets time to adjust and watch for signs of stress or injury.

A little preparation now can help keep your entire family safe when it matters most.

The final step in the Ready, Set, Go! evacuation campaign is **GO**.

A Level 3 “GO” means there is an active wildfire threat in your area and it is time to evacuate immediately. Leave without delay to ensure your safety.

Do not wait for another alert or additional confirmation — fire conditions can change rapidly and unpredictably. If you feel unsafe or unsure, it is always safer to leave early.

Your life and the safety of your family are the top priority. Take your Go! Kit, follow evacuation instructions, and get to a safe location as quickly as possible.
