After more than 30 years in education, including 29 years at Lincoln Elementary and 19 years serving as Lincoln’s principal, Marcela Abadi will retire at the end of this school year.

She will be deeply missed by the Lincoln community and across the Olympia School District. The care, compassion and connection she has shared with students, staff and families is something you can feel the moment you meet her. Principal Abadi has a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome, like they are gathered around a table with family.

Last week, Lincoln celebrated her retirement in true Lincoln fashion: with music, storytelling, laughter, connection and community.

Thank you, Marcela, for the countless lives you have impacted and for the heart you brought to education every single day. 💚 🫶 💚

We know this is not goodbye, and we look forward to seeing the many ways you remain connected to the Lincoln and district community! 🏆Please join us in celebrating Capital High School Media Arts and CTE Teacher Scott Le Duc, who has been named the 2027 Regional Teacher of the Year by Educational Service District (ESD) 113! 🎉 👏

For 28 years, Scott has inspired generations of students through innovative courses such as Game Design, Film Cinematography, and IB Film, empowering them to lead their own learning, think creatively, and prepare for successful futures beyond high school.

“Scott is widely respected by students, families, colleagues, and industry partners,” shared Capital High School Principal Condee Wood. “Students describe him as both demanding and deeply supportive as an educator who pushes them to achieve more than they believed possible.”

From building student confidence to leading innovation in Career and Technical Education and AI integration, Scott’s impact extends far beyond the classroom and continues to shape the learning culture at Capital High School and across Olympia School District.

This recognition follows Scott being named Olympia School District’s Teacher of the Year earlier this year, an honor that highlighted his extraordinary impact on students, staff, and the broader school community: bit.ly/TeacherOfTheYear2026

As a Regional Teacher of the Year honoree, Scott will now advance in the Washington State Teacher of the Year selection process, which includes written applications, virtual interviews, and a keynote presentation. The Washington State Teacher of the Year will be announced later this fall.
