Round of applause for Cyrus and Kasen! These two OHS/New Market Skills Center students are currently competing at the national level in the SkillsUSA Competition!

In case you aren't familiar, SkillsUSA is the national culmination of a year-long process that begins with local SkillsUSA chapters across the country.

Along with gold, silver, and bronze medallions, competitors may earn scholarships, tools of the trade, and even job offers right off the competition floor. They also earn the confidence that can only come when you know you're among the best of the best in what you do.

Congratulations, Cyrus and Kasen! We are so proud of you. GO BEARS! 🐻

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of an Olympia High School Hall of Famer, LTC Bruce P. Crandall. Not only does his portrait grace the main hall of our building, but his name appears on our baseball field scoreboard as a tribute to his life of service.

LTC Crandall was an All-American baseball player during his time at Olympia High School, and went on to the University of Washington until he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. Shortly after, he married his sweetheart, Arlene, and they had three sons and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by Arlene. Arlene also led an extraordinary life, receiving the rank of honorary General from the Army and honorary Admiral by the Navy.

LTC Crandall received the Medal of Honor from President George W. Bush after retiring from service. He continued working in public service as a civilian in California and Arizona.

On behalf of the Olympia High School community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to LTC Crandall's loved ones, and all who are grieving this loss. We invite our FamOLY to share memories, stories, or messages of appreciation in the comments as we celebrate a life that meant so much to so many.

HUGE congrats to two OHS students who received the honor of being named New Market Skills Center Student of the Year in their respective programs. We are so proud of your accomplishment! Congratulations to:

🌟Kasen Edenholm (not pictured), Collision Repair Technology
🌟Bodhi Smiedala (pictured), Construction Trades

It should also be noted that we don't have a photo to share of Kasen receiving his recognition because he's currently at the National SkillsUSA competition, representing New Market. Outstanding!

Learning in action! One of our awesome freshmen students, Gabe, is very interested in machines and how they work. Yesterday, our super CBM technician, John, was working on a copy machine in the library. Mrs. Udo snapped this great photo to capture their teamwork! We really appreciate John for taking the time to connect with Gabe, and Gabe's eagerness to help was another example of The Oly Way! Go Bears! 🐻

Check out these fancy mathematical hats made by our phenomenal Calc B/C students in Mr. Rae's class!

🐻In order to make their hats, students graphed out 3 dimensional shapes. Many students displayed their multivariable equations directly on their hat, but some had equations so complicated that the equation wouldn't fit on the hat!

🐻Mr. Rae took these hats on a parade around the building yesterday so we could see math in action. So cool!
