O3A supports family caregivers this month and every month! If you are a caregiver in Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor, or Pacific county who could use some extra support please reach out to them today:

Family caregivers provide an average of 23 hours of care each week, often while juggling other responsibilities.

It's no surprise many feel stressed, isolated, or burned out. Through O3A’s Family Caregiver Support Program, our coordinators can connect you with resources, relief, and respite care. You don’t have to navigate this alone.

1 in 11 Washington adults ages 45+ are experiencing subjective cognitive decline.

Support for age and dementia friendly efforts could mean:
• Active inclusion and engagement of older adults in their communities and neighborhoods.
• Focus on policies, systems, and environments to embed aging into statewide initiatives.
• Reduce stigma and ageism of older adults, people living with dementia, and their care partners.
• Potentially improve Medicaid savings by supporting health at all ages.

This month, Aging King County encourages all to Stand Up for Family Caregivers, advocating for increased funding for programs such as respite care that are affordable, accessible, and culturally appropriate, as well as connecting families with information and resources to help them navigate caregiving. In their November newsletter, they highlight the recently released League of Women Voters of Washington (LWVW) Elder Caregiving Study. The study includes interviews with family caregivers and elders as well as an extensive literature review. It outlines specific positions that show how both League members and individuals can advocate for better support for family caregivers. The data cited is very eye opening! We encourage you to read all about it here:

As the year winds down and we are looking forward to celebrating several November holidays, such as Veterans Day and Thanksgiving, I wanted to be sure to include another important one. November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time to honor the millions of unpaid family caregivers across the U...

Racialized health disparities across the life course result in higher rates of dementia among people who are Black/ African American or American Indian/Alaska Native.

What is dementia-friendly? Dementia-friendly communities promote awareness of dementia, educating residents about how to best support people touched by dementia and introducing systemic changes within businesses, government, and neighborhoods.
