A moment of visibility made possible by community. 🏳️‍🌈✨

As stewards of this historic campus, Washington State Department of Enterprise Services is committed to creating spaces where communities can gather, be seen, and feel at home. Events like this week’s flag raising are possible because people come together to share their voices, stories, and pride.

Our campus belongs to the community. We’re honored to help make moments like this possible. ❤️

Early this morning, several windows and doors of the Legislative Building were damaged in an act of vandalism. Thanks to the security film installed last year, the suspect did not gain entry and no one was hurt. Washington State Department of Enterprise Services has secured the area and started repairs.

Law enforcement officials pursued the suspect through Heritage Park to Marathon Park. The suspect drove his vehicle along a pedestrian bridge that links the two parks. The bridge is closed until a damage assessment is complete.

We’re grateful for the quick response from Washington State Patrol and for their continued partnership in keeping Capitol Campus safe and welcoming for all. 🙏

As we prepare for Memorial Day, we honor the meaning of this moment by supporting Washington’s communities in two important ways. ⤵️

🌷 On Capitol Campus, our grounds crews carefully prepare memorial spaces. Planting flowers. Refreshing garden beds. Ensuring the campus reflects the respect and remembrance this day deserves. Their work helps create a peaceful place for visitors paying tribute to those who served.

🗃️ Across the state, DES supports public contracting with veteran‑owned businesses. We help agencies connect with skilled, mission‑driven vendors who strengthen local economies and honor the service of Washington’s veterans.

This season reminds us why this work matters.

The Legislative Building is a great place to learn and explore, and feel proud of where you live. Ever wondered what the pots on the four corners of the Capitol’s rotunda were for? 🤔🔍

These bronze firepots were made in 1928 by Tiffany Studios, inspired by firepots that ancient Romans would light when their Senate met. They’re not lit with flames anymore, but they still shine bright and remind us that this building is the center of democracy in Washington. ❤️‍🔥

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the beauty, care, and creativity that shape Capitol Campus. ❤️

From the blooming pops of color to the carefully tended formal gardens, campus is full of vibrant spring color … a fitting tribute to the strength and grace we honor for mothers today.

Many of the plantings across the grounds were chosen for their elegance and seasonal beauty, creating spaces that invite reflection, connection, and appreciation. As stewards of Capitol Campus, we’re proud to maintain landscapes that inspire residents and visitors alike. 🌟

🌷 To all mothers and mother‑figures in public service and across our communities: thank you for the care you give and the difference you make. From all of us at DES, happy Mother’s Day!
