Today we are proud to recognize Firefighter Joshua Sanchez for successfully completing his probationary year as a Career Firefighter with Griffin Fire Department.

Completing a probationary year requires dedication, commitment, and countless hours of training, learning, and service. Over the past year, Joshua has demonstrated a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to serving our community and supporting his fellow firefighters.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Sanchez on this important milestone. We are proud of his accomplishments and look forward to watching his fire service journey continue.

Mental Health Awareness Month - Griffin Fire Department wants our community to know that mental health matters. Whether you are facing stress, grief, anxiety, burnout, or simply going through a difficult season, support is available and you do not have to navigate it alone.

We have added a Mental Health Resources section to our website under the Services tab to help connect community members with support resources.

Sometimes the hardest step is reaching out — but asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

If you or someone you know could benefit from support, we encourage you to visit our website and explore the available resources.

EMS Week is a reminder that some of the most important moments in our community happen quietly — in living rooms, on highways, at kitchen tables, and in the middle of the night.

To our EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, dispatchers, and healthcare partners in Thurston County— thank you for showing up with compassion, calm, and professionalism when people need it most.

We are always so proud to serve this community!

Happy EMS week from Griffin Fire Department🚨

🔋♻️ COMMUNITY BATTERY SAFETY EVENT ♻️🔋

Griffin Fire is proud to help support an incredible community project led by Griffin student and Girl Scout, Scarlett Skillman, as she works toward her Silver Award! Scarlett is bringing national attention to battery safety and fire prevention right here to our community.

Batteries are everywhere in our homes, devices, tools, toys, and even medical equipment — but when improperly thrown away, they can spark dangerous fires, create safety risks for workers, and contribute to pollution. Scarlett’s project focuses on helping our community “Know Before You Throw!” and learn how to safely dispose of batteries.

📅 Thursday, May 28
⏰ 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM
📍 Griffin School
6530 33rd Ave NW, Olympia, WA

This special event will feature:
🔋 Community battery drop-off
🦉 Meet Woodsy Owl
🚐 Interactive battery education trailer
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family-friendly learning opportunities
🔥 Information about battery fire prevention and safety

The National Battery Association is bringing their award-winning interactive education trailer all the way to Washington, and Griffin School is the FIRST school event in the nation to host it!

Bring your old batteries, invite your neighbors, and help support a student making a real difference in our community. Let’s show what Steamboat Island and Griffin can do together!

Our crews are out doing apparatus and equipment checks to make sure everything is fueled, tested, stocked, and ready for whatever the day brings. It may not be the glamorous side of the fire service… but reliable equipment saves time when seconds matter.

Bonus? The sunshine means the bay doors are open and the crews are outside working. If you drive by and see us, don’t be shy — honk, wave, or stop in and say hi. We’re always happy to connect with our neighbors and community. Happy Monday from Griffin Fire!
