401(k) Day is a good reminder to take a few minutes and check in on your retirement plan.

Consider asking yourself:
- Am I contributing regularly?
- Am I taking full advantage of any employer match?
- Do my investments still align with my long-term goals?
- Is my beneficiary information up to date?

Retirement planning doesn’t require having everything figured out today. Consistent steps over time can make a meaningful difference.

And if you’re thinking about your long-term financial plans, join Financial Beginnings on September 15 at 12 p.m. PT for our free online Community Drop-In, Estate Planning and Retirement.

Yesterday, we had our annual all-staff Fall Engagement Meeting at DFI. It was great to see so many of our colleagues in person and be able to connect. During the event, we acknowledged our Employees of the Month and had a special guest presenter, Cami Feek, who is currently the Interim Director of the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services.

It was nice to have Director Feek as our guest speaker – especially since she once worked for DFI and understands who we are and what we do. She shared with us her best practices for staying connected during hybrid work and remote work. DFI strives to create a culture where our team members have a strong connection to each other and are aligned to fulfill our mission and serve all people who call Washington home.

Director Feek had some great ideas and helpful tips to foster this strong connection. Thank you, Director Feek, for providing DFI a great presentation!

Recent violent storms, tornadoes, wildfires, heat waves, and extreme flooding are a reminder that severe weather and natural disasters can happen anytime, anywhere, and with little warning. September is National Preparedness Month and it’s a great time to plan for whatever may come your way.

If someone tells you to deposit cash into a Bitcoin ATM to protect your money, make a payment, or fix an urgent problem, stop — it could be a scam.

Scammers often create urgent, emotional stories to pressure people into sending money through Bitcoin ATMs. Once cash is converted to crypto and sent, it can be very difficult to recover.
Before you use a Bitcoin ATM at someone else’s direction, slow down, verify the request, and learn the red flags.

September is National College Savings Month, a good reminder that preparing for education after high school doesn’t have to happen all at once.

Saving is one part of the picture, alongside scholarships, grants, financial aid, work and other resources. What matters most is starting the conversation early: What might education cost? What options are available? What can we begin doing now?

Small steps today can help create more choices tomorrow.
