I’m incredibly honored to be invited to Nurse Appreciation Night with the Seattle Mariners on May 5!
Even more meaningful, we’ll be recognizing an amazing nurse who helped care for me during one of the most difficult moments of my life.
As many of you know, I experienced a stroke last year. It changed my perspective in ways I’m still processing, and it’s a big part of why Stroke Awareness Month means so much to me.
The care I received wasn’t just medical, it was personal, compassionate, and lifesaving. Nurses are often the steady presence in moments of fear and uncertainty, and I’ll never forget the people who were there for me.
That experience is also why I’ve supported legislation like SB 5602 / HB 1545, focused on improving cardiac and stroke outcomes through better data, coordination, and continuous quality improvement across our health care system. It’s about making sure more families have access to the kind of care that saves lives.
And more broadly, I’ll always support efforts to strengthen and support our health care workforce, including the nurses who show up every day for our communities.
To now have the chance to stand alongside one of those nurses and potentially throw out the first pitch… it’s hard to put into words what that means.
This May, I hope you’ll join me in recognizing the incredible nurses in our communities and learning more about stroke awareness and prevention.
Warming up my pitching arm!
