During an election year, there are certain restrictions on my communications to prevent the use of public, state resources for campaign purposes. One of these restrictions is a freeze on this Facebook account, meaning the page will not be updated beginning May 4, 2026, until after the general election in November. Per the Legislative Ethics Board, this page is unable to accept comments during this same time period. If you have questions or comments about legislative issues, please feel free to continue to contact me using the link below. Thank you!

Starting May 4, 2026, there will be a pause in my official updates due to Election Year Activity (EYA) restrictions, which were put in place to ensure no state resources are used for campaign purposes during election years. This means no e-newsletters or social media posts from my office until after the November election—but my work on your behalf continues. If you have questions or want to share your thoughts on legislative issues, please don’t hesitate to reach out via phone or email. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Here is my contact information: https://housedemocrats.wa.gov/cortes/contact/

Senate Bill 5944, companion to my HB 2109, to strengthen language access services has been signed into law! This measure strengthens language access by allowing interpreters and translators to collectively bargain for fair compensation as well as working conditions. This is an important step forward to ensure this essential workforce is retained so our communities have access to the information they need in a language they can fully understand.

My bill concerning utility connection charge waivers has been signed into law! House Bill 1302 will soon lower barriers for community development by giving local governments the option to waive upfront utility connection fees. This helps to reduce costs and support development that directly benefits our local communities!

Were you or someone you know impacted by the December flooding event? If the answer is yes, here are a few resources that may be useful.

First, ICYMI the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved nearly $21 million in federal aid to support flood mitigation efforts in Washington and Oregon. If you sustained losses from the December flooding event, you can apply for FEMA disaster assistance by clicking on the red “APPLY NOW” button here: https://www.disasterassistance.gov/

Next, consider taking a few minutes to review the information and resources listed on http://floodrecovery.wa.gov/. This is the official state website for flood recovery and assistance.

Finally, the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions has a list of financial resources that may be useful to you or a loved one here: https://dfi.wa.gov/flood-resources

Last year, the Legislature passed House Bill 1217, the rent stabilization law. This measure amended both the Residential Landlord Tenant Act and the Manufactured/Mobile Home Landlord Tenant Act providing additional tenant protections, including limiting how much a landlord can increase a tenant’s rent over a 12-month period. This change provides much needed predictability for renters at a time when the cost of living is high for many of us.

For those who may have missed it, the Washington State Attorney General has a great consumer alert “know your rights” FAQ document. Below is a partial screenshot. To view the full resource, visit: https://bit.ly/48prF6B
