During an election year, there are certain restrictions on my communications to prevent the use of public, state resources for campaign purposes. One of these restrictions is a freeze on this Facebook account, meaning the page will not be updated beginning May 4, 2026, until after the general election in November. Per the Legislative Ethics Board, this page is unable to accept comments during this same time period.

The recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to weaken parts of the federal Voting Rights Act is concerning, albeit not entirely unexpected. That’s why I want to highlight this package of proactive, common sense legislation we advanced this year.

Collectively, these new laws protect the integrity of Washington state elections and the rights of every eligible voter. By getting ahead of issues before they occur, we will be able to prevent discriminatory practices before they happen while ensuring our local elections remain fair and accessible.

Senate Bill 6019 has been signed into law! This companion bill to my HB 2276 supports our homecare workforce by ensuring Medicaid homecare funding supports caregivers AND makes it easier for patients to understand what services are covered. These small changes will culminate into a big effect.

Senate Bill 5395, companion legislation to my HB 1566, has been signed into law! This legislation improves transparency and oversight in the prior authorization process for health care services. This measure ensures prior authorization decisions are made by qualified health care professionals – NOT AI – and establishes clear timelines to prevent delays in medically necessary care.

To my neighbors who were impacted by the December flooding event – I want to share a few more resources with you.

Today marks day 54 of our 60 day legislative session and things are moving quickly! On Wednesday I spoke to Senate Bill 5395 on the House floor. This is the companion to my HB 1566, which explores reforms in prior authorization improvements and responsible AI regulation in healthcare all while gathering the data we need to move forward thoughtfully in the future.
