Equal Pay Day is about fairness, plain and simple.

No one should be paid less for the same work. Washington has taken steps forward, including SHB 1905, to strengthen pay equity protections, and I’ll keep working to make sure every worker is treated with dignity and respect.

Music to our ears!

Still taking this one in.

I had the opportunity to attend the signing of HB 2363 here in Washington, something I worked on advancing as part of the Washington Music Therapy Task Force. This bill creates a supervised pathway for music therapy graduates to begin working while their certification and licenses are being obtained, helping reduce workforce gaps and support continuity of care across our state.

Grateful to Rep. Julia Reed for championing this bill, our wonderful lobbyists, and the teams at the American Music Therapy Association, Inc. and Certification Board for Music Therapists for their support throughout the process. As well as the greater music therapy community here in WA who answered the call to support the bill over the last few months.

Proud to be part of this community and this step forward for music therapy in Washington. More work ahead, and I look forward to continuing to help move this field forward.

As we approach over 20 hours straight of debate here on the House Floor, legislators and staff are working hard to keep ourselves awake.

There’s no better way to stay sharp than with some good-natured fun and laughter, so with that, here are some light-hearted memes submitted by loyal supporters and creative geniuses using a photo from yesterday’s bill signing.

This is why I ❤️ you, policy wonks!

This morning, I was honored to watch HB 1687 be the first bill signed into law this year.

This bill expands the Housing Cooperation Law to include Social Housing Public Development Agencies, which allows these agencies to partner with localities for a clearer path through permitting and development. It’s an easy way to support more social housing in Washington, and I’m thankful for Mayor Wilson and Councilmember Foster’s (among other City of Seattle partners’) support on getting this bill through the legislature.

Check out the video below to see the Governor Ferguson’s remarks as he signed HB 1687 into law, surrounded by social housing supporters. It takes a village!

With one week left in session (time flies!), I want to spotlight my office’s amazing intern.

Bea is a senior at Gonzaga, where she majors in political science and environmental studies with a minor in entrepreneurial leadership. She also does research on renewable energy access in low income households under a professor. After graduation, she is taking a gap year kicking off with working a summer in Yellowstone National Park before heading to law school, where she plans to study environmental law.

Since day one Bea has been a fantastic addition to our office, where she assists in stakeholdering legislation, meeting with constituents and other legislative community members, and replying to inquiries about a variety of bills, focusing on environmental and federal overreach topics. She staffed three offices during this short session, and I feel lucky to be one of them.

Bea, thank you for your work this session. We will miss you in our office, but will be rooting for you in all your future endeavors!

Today, I got to meet with constituents from the Center School, a small arts school located in the Seattle Center. Each student has been following a bill of their choice as it moves through the legislature, and today they came to advocate for their priority bills.

These thoughtful and well-prepared young people lobbied on bills regulating artificial intelligence, limiting ICE actions in Washington state, and strengthening protections for student safety and civil rights.

I am always inspired by students who take the time to understand the legislative process and use their voices to push for change. Civic engagement does not start at 18. It starts when young people realize their voices matter. Seattle Public Schools

I thought you all might enjoy seeing a behind-the-scenes glance at what goes into making some of our communications projects!

The House Democrats’ Communications teams do a lot, from social media videos and posts to things like press releases and floor speeches. During session, the legislator’s schedules are incredibly tight, and somehow our comms team works around our schedules while also juggling their own responsibilities. They make it look easy, and I know it is not!

Below is a sneak peek of a video I’m going to be a part of where legislators recall times they were “gaveled” on the House Floor. I had a tight schedule this morning, but Comms set up, shot the video, and tore down the equipment in less than ten minutes. Then later, I was in a video congratulating our Olympic champions with my seatmates. Senate Comms took several shots in less than 15 minutes, and had products turned around before the end of the day.

I look forward to sharing these videos and more with you all, and shoutout to our Communications teams who make great projects seem easy!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our town hall this weekend. I am grateful you took time to show up, ask thoughtful questions, and share what you want to see prioritized for our community.

A big thank you to my seatmates for partnering with me to co host, and to the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County for welcoming us and letting us hold the event in your space. We are lucky to have community partners who create places where people can come together and be heard.

If you could not make it, I still want to hear from you. Please reach out anytime, and thank you for staying engaged!
