Beginning May 4, 2026, this page will not be updated until certification of the November general election.

During an election year, there are certain restrictions on my communications to ensure no state resources are used for election purposes. One of these restrictions is a freeze on this page, which means this page is also unable to accept comments during this period.

Before the vote, I took a moment to share why I believe it’s time for a fairer tax code in Washington, and went into the proposal.

For too long, our system has asked the most from the people with the least. The Millionaires Tax is about beginning to rebalance that by asking those making over a million dollars a year to contribute a little more so we can invest in schools, health care, and the services families rely on.

After debating for over 24 hours straight, we've officially, finally, passed the Millionaire's Tax off the House floor! We heard many arguments against this proposal, but we know Washington families need relief now. It's time to take this historic first step toward fixing our upside-down tax code and ensuring Washington remains a place where working families can thrive for generations to come.

We were glad to welcome Brett Devine from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane as a page this week in Olympia! 🎉

Brett is a ninth grader who enjoys music, film, building models, and even wood whittling. It’s always inspiring to see young people take an interest in how our government works, and Brett did a fantastic job helping keep things running smoothly during a busy week at the Capitol.

In this year's Olympia friendly, we're working hard to get our jobs done. I took some time before floor session on Saturday to officiate some of this year's bills. We had some great "play on" bills, and some others that got sent off with a red card. You shouldn't need VAR for these.

Word on the street is there's been a lot of chatter about the proposed 'Millionaire's tax.' Here's what you really need to know and why it's so important that we get this done for Washington State.
