Our Intro to Teaching students completed their second classroom observation at Richland County Elementary School. A special thank you to Principal Jennifer Fox for welcoming our future educators and to Assistant Principal Breanne Clark for coordinating the arrangements.

We are also incredibly grateful to Tiffany Grove, Taryn Tarr, Bridgitte Shan, Madison Eagleson, and Michelle Burgener for opening their classrooms to our students. Your willingness to let them observe authentic teaching in action and see the relationships, professionalism, positive expectations, and intentional practices that go into creating an effective classroom is invaluable.

Mrs. Burris's Dual Credit Statistics class put their knowledge of linear regression to the test today with a Barbie bungee jump competition. Students collected data and used their equation to predict the perfect number of rubber bands needed to give Barbie a fun and thrilling jump without hitting the ground.

The Intro to Teaching students have been busy!

Last week, students presented their “Build a Teacher” activity, where they identified and discussed the characteristics and practices that make an effective teacher.

They also had the opportunity to put that learning into action during their first classroom observation at St. Joe. Their observation theme was “Find Wong,” challenging them to look for real-life examples of the effective teaching practices, procedures, routines, positive expectations, and classroom management strategies we have been studying in The First Days of School by Harry and Rosemary Wong.

A special thank you to Principal Josy Hart for coordinating our visit and to Sarah Crane, Hannah Jensen, Rachel Frye, and Cally Mitchell for welcoming our future educators into your classrooms and allowing them to learn from you!

There’s no better way to learn about teaching than to see great educators in action.
