🚨ATTENTION TENANTS🚨
Please be advised that with the impending winter warnings, it’s crucial to take preventive measures to avoid frozen pipes and heat loss in your unit. Here are a few proactive ideas:
* Drip water from faucets: Letting a faucet drip during extreme cold weather can prevent pipes from bursting. A small, steady drip of water prevents freezing.
* Keep cabinet doors under sinks open: This allows warm air to circulate around the pipes.
***Be sure to move any harmful cleaners and household chemicals out of the reach of children.
* Check your windows: It may seem like an obvious tip, but checking all the windows in your unit to ensure they are closed and locked will reduce radiant heat loss.
* Disconnect and drain garden hoses: This will help prevent outside faucets from freezing. Damage caused by attached garden hoses can be charged to the tenant.
A cooking stove is NOT to be used as a heater. Heating with cooking stove burners increases the risk of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning and can also cause damage to the stove.
***If you plan on leaving your unit for any extended period, the heat must be left on to prevent frozen pipes.
***Also remember to open cabinet doors under the sinks.
Frozen pipes may burst, and any damage incurred to your personal property is not the responsibility of the Housing Authority. Tenants are advised to have up-to-date renter’s insurance to cover damages to their personal property.
Renter’s insurance is inexpensive,
sometimes just a few dollars per month.
If you experience frozen water lines or a loss of heat, IMMEDIATELY call the Housing
Authority office at 618-395-2571. If after hours, please call the emergency pager number.
