Your “B Shift” firefighters have been training hard this rotation both in house and in conjunction with other STL County area fire companies.
Training this rotation consisted of downed firefighter rescue & removal.
Firefighters acting as RIC (Rapid Intervention Crew) searched for the down firefighter in a variety of scenarios and settings, made contact, establish the downed firefighters needs, & then remove the downed firefighter to the exterior of the structure.
During these scenarios crews must overcome obstacles and possibly deliver air to the downed firefighter through an external source brought with them during the search.
Crews utilized Smoke Trainers on their masks during scenarios to simulate low visibility and the conditions we may encounter on fire scenes. This aids in relying on the familiarity of our equipment and the layouts to make proper connections in these environments. This also aids in our ability to orient ourselves during interior operations when visibility is low.
