IAFF Local 1796 City of Olean Firefighters IAFF Local 1796 The City of Olean Fire Department has been a paid professional department since 1894.

Currently there are 36 IAFF Local 1796 Union members consisting of 5 Captains, 3 Lieutenants, and 28 Firefighters. On August 28, 1968, the Olean Fire Department became a member of the International Association of Firefighters, Local 1796. Their first official meeting was held on October 7, 1968. In 1969, the first labor agreement was signed with the City of Olean. The members of the department had entered the IAFF (Local 1796).

This weekend's golf tournament will be here before we know it. We have some last minute openings for golf teams. If anyone is interested in playing contact Dave Peters at [email protected] for registration information.

Everyone is welcome to participate in the basket raffles. The basket raffles will be at the Bartlett Country Club until the end of the tournament.

Join us for the Annual Tracy Veno Memorial Golf Tournament on Sunday, September 20, 2025, at Bartlett Country Club.

Please join the Olean Fire Department in welcoming the 2026-1 Recruit Firefighter Training Class. This class will complete a rigorous 14 week training program to become professional firefighters. The program will cover a wide array of topics including basic and advanced fire ground skills, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, vehicle extrication, physical fitness training and many other specialized topics.

Occupational cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty death in the fire service.

In 2025, nearly 80% of International Association of Fire Fighters member line-of-duty deaths were due to occupational cancer.

Every January, in honor of Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month, we aim to raise public awareness of occupational cancer in the fire service and equip firefighters with the information and tools they need to reduce their risk.
