There have been many questions from people asking about prepaying village taxes. Here is a note from our attorney explaining why we cannot accelerate the issuance of tax warrants.
"In simplest terms, the warrant for collection of taxes authorizes the treasurer of the village to collect the taxes levied on the tax roll. The tax bills are mailed after the treasurer receives the tax roll and warrant. Before this takes place, the Village has to adopt its budget, and complete the assessment roll based on the budget. This doesn’t take place until April/May for VOW. In contrast, the warrants for the general taxes are signed and delivered by the County to the Town’s Receiver of Taxes the last week in December. I believe that the Town’s Receiver, Charlie Berman, has received the County warrant, and therefore he is able to collect taxes."

Farmers Market Update
Tomorrow we join together for the last Farmers Market of the year. Always the surest sign that Fall is here. Regrettably, it falls on Yom Kippur, which alluded our planning early in the season, next year, we will be more mindful.
Want to thank all the residents and guests who came out to support our local vendors. Want to thank Peter Paniccia and his family who came out every week with eggs, oil from their property in Italy and gorgeous tomatoes, greens, herbs, radishes all grown at his two properties in Old Westbury.
Thanks also to Jonathan McNally at Elemental Acres who joined the Farmers Market midway with nutrient rich vegan treats. Jonathan has a special offer for any resident of Old Westbury - If next summer you would like to try a little farm on your property, Jonathan will come set it up for you and will take care of it for free, if you share the bounty of the harvest with him. Jonathan favors a food as best medicine philosophy and seeks to grow as much as possible on Long Island. Call him at 631-786-6357 or [email protected] for more info.
Thank you to members of the newly formed Friends of Old Westbury who came to the Farmers Market armed with their vision and hope for the village.
Thanks also to Village Clerk Brian Ridgeway for his help with signage and getting vendors situated.. Thanks to DPW for their help every Saturday.
This was a fantastic first year. Let us know what you thought and what you'd like to see going forward.
Next year we are looking for more vendors, more participation and more community as a result.
Wishing you all a happy fall.
Best,
Leslie Fastenberg
