✨ Prepping Canning Jar Lids the RIGHT Way! ✨
Remember when we used to simmer canning lids on the stove, getting everything ready to go? 🍲 Well, times—and lids—have changed!
👉 For the BEST seal on your jars:
Always check the manufacturer’s instructions first. If none are listed, keep it simple—wash lids in hot, soapy water 🧼, dry them thoroughly, and set aside until you’re ready to can. Easy and effective! ✅
🚫 Quick lid check before you start:
• Skip any lids that are dented or bent
• Toss ones with damaged sealing compound
• And remember: unused lids are typically good for up to 5 years from manufacture 📅

Reach out to the Guernsey SWCD office to get signed up!

Livestock producers in Guernsey County are eligible to participate in a new funding opportunity. The Guernsey Soil and Water Conservation District is currently accepting enrollments for the development of grazing management plans. Eligible participants can receive financial incentives of $10 per acre, capped at 100 acres. For inquiries or to participate, please email Brianna at [email protected] or call 740-489-5276.

Join OSU Extension at the Guernsey County District Public Library to discover the basics of canning, freezing, and other methods of food preservation! These workshops will address topics such as: • Basic food safety principles • Water bath canner and pressure canner methods • Principles including canning tomatoes and pickling • Methods for freezing fruits and vegetables • Reliable, research-supported resources from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, OSU Extension, and others.
