Forgive the mess, but we are in the middle of constructing our indoor drone lab. This year, OTHS has a new offering. A year long elective class that provides an introduction to IT and Cyber Security concepts, as well as drone piloting and flight programming. The drone lab will be used to build a competitive drone team that can compete against other area schools. Registration is still open! Just ask your school counselor about adding this exiting elective to your schedule.

Mr. Koscuiszka’s and Mr. Gilbert’s “Exploring the National Parks” class had their first field excursion of the year today! Before getting out to the National park sites Maine has to offer, students were brought to the Orono Bog Walk to practice slooooooowing down and trying to find subtle details about the outdoors we may miss most often. Students got to take pictures, hunt for tiny and secretive Sundews and test the leaf contents (kinda like stomach) of carnivorous pitcher plants. It was a beautiful day and amazing start to a wonderful class.

Yesterday was National Read A Book Day and I hope some of you did just that over this Labor Day weekend. The benefits of reading are numerous. Here is a quick sample of what our staff read this summer!

On the first day of school Ms. Davis’s AP Lit students were thinking like poets. They transcribed text delivered orally, without context, and then worked together to try to create a poem. Finally, as a class they looked at the actual poem and worked together to analyze its meaning. Brilliant work for these scholars!

Here are a few photos from OT's Class of 2027 "Senior Sunrise." This event is a popular high school tradition where graduating seniors gather at dawn on or near the first day of school to watch the sunrise together. This helps to foster class unity and celebrate reaching the final year of high school. It is also another way to create lasting memories. All the Best to our Class of 2027 as they kick off their senior year!

Our Grade 9 transition day is in the books. Students left feeling a little more confident and a bit less anxious after navigating the building, learning their schedule and meeting staff.
Shout out to our Student Council, who not only were there to greet all RSU 34 teachers on Monday, but also were there today to assist our newest students make it through the day!
A big Thanks to Ms. Davis & Mrs. Turner, our StuCo advisors.
Tomorrow all grades start the 2026-2027 school year. Let’s Gooooooo Coyotes.

Just a reminder, if your student has not picked up their laptop yet - they have one more chance! We will be distributing laptops from 3:00pm to 5:30pm today. In addition, any student who still needs to pick up their 2026 yearbook may do so at that time.
The new pavement is now ready, so we will be using the main entrance. You can park at the front of the building and use the main entrance doors.
