You may see crews out in the next several weeks painting fire hydrant bonnets. We do this so we can visually tell how much water is available in any given hydrant. We hope the rest of them turn out as nice as the one Johnny did on High Street. However, as meticulous as He was, we might not finish this project until 2030.

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001, a day that changed our nation and forever changed the public safety family.

Twenty-five years later, the memories may have grown older, but the sacrifice has never become smaller. We remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost, the families who were forever changed, and the 343 firefighters who ran toward danger while others were running away.

As firefighters and EMS providers, we understand the call to serve. We understand the bond between those who put on the uniform and the promise we make to protect others. The courage shown that day continues to inspire every generation of first responders who answer the call.

Today, we honor their lives, their courage, and their sacrifice.

25 years later, their stories still matter.

Their sacrifice still matters.

And we will never forget.

Today, members of Old Town Fire Rescue completed annual confined space training with Specialty Response Solutions, Inc., putting our technical rescue skills to work in a challenging and realistic environment.

This year’s training also gave us the opportunity to utilize our new-to-us confined space training props, which were set up last week, donated by Sargent and American Concrete Industries. These props provide our crews with valuable hands-on opportunities to practice patient access, entry, lowering and raising systems, rope operations, and working around the unique hazards associated with confined spaces.

A special thank you to Old Town Public Works for making the site and these props available to us and helping expand the training opportunities at the developing training site. Having access to realistic training environments allows our members to build proficiency in a controlled setting before these skills are needed on an actual emergency.

Training like this is critical to maintaining the capabilities our community depends on when the call involves a confined space or technical rescue.

The Old Town Public Safety Office will be closed today in observance of the holiday.

🚑🚒 Please remember: While our administrative office will be closed, our Firefighters and EMTs remain on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will continue serving and responding to our community throughout the holiday weekend.

Crews have just returned from this structure fire on Woodland Ave. Initial crew was able to make a quick attack and kept the fire to the roof of the building.
