As this long term construction project begins, please allow yourself extra time and patience when crossing The Gold Star Bridge.

An accident on either side will drastically effect our abilty to transport to and return from L&M in New London. We are preparing for alternative routes of travel and alternative hopsital destinations in the event the area becomes impassble for any extended time.

IMPORTANT TRAFFIC ALERT: Gold Star Bridge I-95 Project Update

Major Lane Configuration Change Coming May 30-31, 2026

The Connecticut Department of Transportation's Gold Star Bridge project is reaching a critical milestone that will impact I-95 travel for the next four years.

OVERNIGHT WORK - SATURDAY, MAY 30TH:

When: Saturday, May 30th, 8:00 PM through Sunday, May 31st, 8:00 AM

What: Installation of the I-95 Northbound Crossover

Impact: Lane closures on I-95 Northbound during this 12-hour window

This date was strategically selected based on the lowest expected traffic volumes and to provide contractors the maximum time needed to complete extensive roadway modifications safely.

NEW PERMANENT TRAFFIC PATTERN - BEGINS MAY 31ST:

Starting Sunday, May 31, 2026, a new four-year traffic configuration will be in effect:

I-95 Northbound Traffic:

· Through Traffic (continuing north): Use 2 lanes that will cross
over to the southbound bridge
· Local Traffic (New London/Downtown Groton): Use 2 lanes
remaining on the existing northbound bridge

Exit Access Changes:

· Exit 86: Accessible ONLY via the I-95 crossover lanes
· Exit 85: Accessible ONLY via the existing northbound bridge
local lanes

PLAN AHEAD:

✅ Know your destination before entering I-95 NB in this area
✅ Allow extra travel time as drivers adjust to the new
configuration
✅ Pay attention to signage directing through vs. local traffic
✅ Avoid the area Saturday night/Sunday morning if possible
during construction hours

Thank you for your patience as we all work together to improve our infrastructure.

Way to go Marie!!!!

Marie was a full time employee here at Mystic River Ambulance for 20+ years. Needless to say, we know how compassionate and talented she is in a time of need! New London is lucky to have her!!!

🚨👶 WHEN EVERY SECOND COUNTS 👶🚨

May 18, 6:03 AM: "My wife's in labor—the baby's coming NOW!"

Dispatcher Marie Egerton didn't panic. She became a lifeline.

With calm, clear instructions, she guided terrified parents through an at-home delivery, helping bring a healthy baby girl safely into the world while coordinating emergency response.

In the most intense moments, Dispatcher Egerton showed what true professionalism looks like. She made all the difference for this family.

Join us in celebrating Dispatcher Egerton—a reminder that heroes don't always wear capes. Sometimes they wear headsets. 💙👏
