04-21-2026 Structure Fire in Arnolds Park

The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue was dispatched to 39 Allen Avenue on 04-21-2026 at 4:26PM for a reported garage explosion and structure fire. The department responded to the scene and while enroute due to the volume of smoke and reports coming in of additional nearby structures catching fire requested the Milford Fire Department for mutual aid assistance. Upon arrival of the department the structure at 57 Allen avenue was fully engulfed in flames. In addition, a structure to the north was also on fire and a garage attached to the structure to the south was also on fire. The department determined that no occupants were in any of the three structures and began an exterior fire attack on the structures to the north and south of the main fire structure to stop any further fire spread as well as the main structure on fire. One bystander was evaluated on scene for smoke inhalation but refused transport to the hospital and was released on scene. The department had the bulk of the fire under control within 90 minutes but remained on scene for several more hours extinguishing hot spots. The department maintained fire watch on all structures for several hours after. After reviewing available information and interviewing witnesses the department determined that the fire cause was accidental in nature and had spread from a nearby brush and debris fire. The initial report of an explosion was believed to be consumer fireworks that were being stored in one of the structures. The department was aided on the scene by the Milford Fire Department, Lakes Regional Healthcare, Dickinson County Emergency Management, The American Red Cross, Milford, Arnolds Park, and Okoboji Police Departments.

Spring is a good time to check your vessel’s safety gear. Make sure you have enough life jackets that fit everyone who will be riding on your vessel and more importantly make sure everyone wears a life jacket.

DO NOT TRAVEL in Dickinson County tonight. Some county roads have become impassible. Blizzard conditions with zero visibility will continue into the night. Visibility is so poor that we may not be able to reach you until conditions improve. If you do choose to travel, make sure you have a full tank of gas and a winter survival kit in your vehicle. If you become stranded, stay with your vehicle and be prepared to wait for an extended time before help can arrive.

THE INFORMATION IN THIS POST IS OUT OF DATE. Please see our latest Facebook post or visit www.weather.gov for your local forecast.

Risks of heavy snow and blizzard conditions this weekend are growing. Areas of light snow begin early Saturday, but the greatest impacts are expected Saturday night through Sunday when snowfall totals exceeding 6 to 12 inches will be possible in portions of the region. Strong north winds develop early Sunday, and travel may become impossible due to blizzard conditions. Continue to monitor the forecast but plan now for potential travel impacts.
