Due to some of the measures taken during the plant shutdown we have a higher than usual demand to make up for on water consumption. Including refilling storage in ours and rural systems.

Due to this, the city will be closing splashpads this afternoon and tomorrow to help recharge the system.

Thank you for your attention to this matter

The Okmulgee Water Treatment Plant will be temporarily offline on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026 to tie in a new high volume main servicing the city water system. It is replacing two old 18" mains that run through the bottoms east of town and are prone to leaking. The plant is expected to be offline from approx 8:00 pm until 12:00 am. The system will continue to be serviced by water storage in the tanks. You may experience lower pressures during that time.

Please limit water usage as much as possible to ease the demand. We appreciate your assistance, and your understanding for the inconvenience.

There have been questions about getting alert notifications from the city. Occasionally, the City will use Smart911, a third party notification company, to send out alerts for boil orders and other advisories. It is not being used for ongoing police or fire emergencies.

You have the option to add as much or little information about you and your family as you want. Information will be used after disasters to account for families and pets. You can also mark storm shelters, so they can be checked after disasters. Information is not used for anything else.

Both the Smart911 and the storm shelter registration are available at the link. You can sign up for talk text and email alerts.

UPDATE. The Precautionary Boil Advisory has been closed and withdrawn

The City of Okmulgee is issuing a precautionary boil advisory due to an interruption to the chlorine disinfection process. Other processes were not compromised. Repairs were completed around midnight, and all plant processes are again functioning normally. However, water has made it into the system that has not been suitably exposed to chlorination.

City staff will be flushing and testing for residual on 4/3/2026, and once confirmation of safe drinking water, we will lift the advisory. We will advise on this page, and the okmulgeeonline website when the advisory is lifted

The project will be ongoing until the end of May. Part of the road will be CLOSED, and there will not be through access. Please use the alternative routes on the map attached.

The Omniplex and Safe Space traffic should enter from Gun Club Road and Preston Drive. Please expect traffic delays during this time. We encourage everyone to plan for extra commute time. Gun Club and Highway 75 is a very busy intersection. Please use caution when crossing.
