Apparently K-9 Fury was not happy about being left out of yesterday’s Facebook post featuring some of our other four-legged officers.

This morning I received several text messages expressing his disappointment and demanding equal representation. First, I’m not exactly sure how Fury got a cell phone. Second, I’m even less sure how he learned to text. Third, his grammar was surprisingly good for a dog.

The messages included things like:

“Did you forget who the real star of the K-9 Division is?”

“I hope those other dogs enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame.”

And my personal favorite:

“Accidents happen. Leaving Fury out twice would be intentional.”

So, in the interest of avoiding any further strongly worded text messages from a police K-9, here is Fury’s official appearance on our page.

For the record, Fury has since been paid in treats and tennis balls and has agreed not to report me to Internal Affairs.

At least that’s what his last text message said.

Today I had the tough assignment of spending some time with our K-9 Division getting updated photos of our four-legged officers.

Unlike our human officers, the K-9s demanded payment up front in tennis balls, treats, and endless compliments before agreeing to pose for the camera.

I quickly learned that K-9 officers have two speeds: 100 miles per hour and asleep. Getting the perfect photo involved squeaky toys, funny noises, and repeatedly asking them to look at the camera instead of whatever imaginary suspect they had spotted in the distance.

While they may be experts at tracking suspects, locating narcotics, and protecting their handlers, they are also experts at stealing the spotlight every time they show up to an event.

A big thank you to our K-9 teams for letting me tag along today. They may have fur, four legs, and a tendency to ignore directions during photo shoots, but they are some of the hardest-working officers in our department.

And yes… they all know they’re the real stars of the Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department.

The Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department recently traveled to Garfield County to provide Tactical Medicine training for law enforcement officers from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office, Enid Campus Police, and the Tonkawa Police Department.

This challenging course pushes officers to their limits through dynamic, high-stress scenarios designed to replicate real-world critical incidents. Participants learned how to effectively employ the life-saving equipment contained in their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs) and how to survive and respond during the critical first five minutes following a critical incident.

The officers who attended demonstrated outstanding determination, professionalism, and resilience throughout the training. They pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones and worked tirelessly to develop skills that could one day save their own lives, the lives of their fellow officers, or the lives of the communities they serve.

The course was instructed by Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police officers Tyler McFarland, Branden Garner, and Alex Owen, who shared their knowledge and experience to help prepare fellow law enforcement officers for some of the most challenging situations they may encounter in the line of duty.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office for hosting this training and for being a strong training partner. Partnerships like these strengthen law enforcement agencies across Oklahoma and help ensure officers are better prepared to serve and protect their communities.

Training saves lives, and we are proud to work alongside agencies that are committed to excellence in officer safety and professional development.

The Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police K-9 Division was proud to attend the American Legion Oklahoma Boys State First Responder Academy this week.

Our K-9 teams had the opportunity to teach the delegates about the important role K-9 operations play in law enforcement, including narcotics detection, tracking, apprehension, and officer safety. Delegates also enjoyed live K-9 demonstrations showcasing the training, discipline, and teamwork between our handlers and their partners.

We appreciate the opportunity to help educate, mentor, and inspire the next generation of leaders and first responders. Thank you to American Legion Oklahoma Boys State for allowing us to once again be part of this outstanding program.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our Nation. Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave their lives in defense of our freedoms.

The Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department proudly remembers all fallen heroes — military service members, law enforcement officers, and first responders — whose sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends today, let us also take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day and honor those who gave everything for others.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Bryan Underwood on successfully completing the 40-hour Fit-to-Enforce Fitness Instructor Course in Shelby County, Tennessee. This was an extremely grueling and physically demanding course, and Officer Underwood passed with flying colors — earning the highest grade in the class.

We are proud of his dedication, professionalism, and commitment to health and wellness within law enforcement. His hard work and determination continue to represent the standards of the Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department at the highest level.

Congratulations, Officer Underwood! Great work representing the Nation and the department.

Yesterday, Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police was honored to be part of the Oklahoma Special Olympics at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

Our Public Information Officer and Mounted Patrol Officers had a fantastic time meeting so many amazing athletes throughout the day. From the high-fives and hugs to all the fun photo opportunities, the energy and spirit shown by these competitors was truly inspiring.

Thank you to everyone who made this incredible event possible. We are proud to stand alongside our law enforcement partners and support these outstanding athletes and the mission of Special Olympics Oklahoma.

Officers with the Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department are currently participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Oklahoma Special Olympics, traveling from Tulsa to Stillwater alongside our fellow law enforcement partners from across the state.

We are proud to stand united in support of this incredible program and the inspiring athletes of Special Olympics Oklahoma. Events like this remind us of the power of teamwork, community, and inclusion.
