CITY COUNCILMEMBER ARRESTED FOR CHILD ABUSE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
MARCH 25, 2026

OKMULGEE, OK – On November 24, 2025, the Okmulgee Police Department requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate an alleged child abuse case.

A police report, filed with the Okmulgee Police Department, stated that 63-year-old Marcus Jeffrey struck several minors with a belt during a youth meeting at the East Side Baptist Church.

Jeffrey had started as a teacher for the youth group a few weeks prior to the incident. It was also determined that Jeffrey is a councilmember for the City of Okmulgee.

OSBI special agents reviewed video surveillance from inside the church. Throughout the video, Jeffrey was seen holding a belt and swinging it erratically toward the group of children, striking a number of them.

The OSBI provided their comprehensive report to the Okmulgee County District Attorney’s Office for review. Based on the information and evidence obtained, on March 24, 2026, an arrest warrant was issued for Jeffrey on charges of Child Abuse.

That same day, Jeffrey turned himself into the Okmulgee County Detention Center, where he was officially arrested and booked in.

The OSBI appreciates the Okmulgee Police Department and Okmulgee County District Attorney’s Office for their continued assistance with this investigation.
