We were proud to host the Optimist Club’s Oratorical Contest at the Downtown Exchange Club and to see such impressive young people step up to the microphone with courage, poise, and purpose.

These students did an outstanding job. Public speaking is never easy, and each one of them showed real preparation, heart, and confidence as they competed for scholarships and shared their ideas so thoughtfully.

It was also a great reminder of how much good can happen when community organizations work together. When clubs like ours connect, support one another, and invest in young people, we create opportunities that matter and encouragement that lasts.

Congratulations to all of the students who participated. You represented yourselves so well, and we are grateful to have been part of a program that celebrates achievement, leadership, and the bright future ahead. Thank you to the Optimist Club for including us in such a wonderful event!

In a stunning turn of events at Rolling Thunder Bingo, Susie Osborne borrowed a card from none other than the Bingo Queen herself, Andrea Teter… and then proceeded to sn**ch victory right out of her royal hands.

But in true champion fashion, Susie didn’t just win, she gave it all back, donating her winnings to purchase diapers for Parent Promise and to assist those experiencing homelessness.

A little competitive, some strategy, and a whole lot of generous!

Congratulations, Susie! Thank you for turning a bingo win into something that makes a real difference!

A big thank you to Jay Barnett for hosting our March 18th speaker, Jim Priest, and for reminding us that leadership rooted in service and integrity never goes out of style.

Jay kicked things off with a story about discovering that Jim is a pretty talented basketball player, something that caught him completely off guard. Jim, in turn, seemed equally surprised that this was surprising at all.

Between the laughs, we were treated to a powerful message: the best leaders don’t just talk about values, they live them. Grateful for the humor, the perspective, and the reminder that character always carries the day.

We were honored to hear from Jim Priest, whose presentation on leadership reminded us that the best leaders are grounded in honor, integrity, grace, and humility.

Jim’s remarkable career, as an attorney, minister, nonprofit leader, and “Chief Encouragement Officer." reflects a life committed to service and lifting others. His message was simple but powerful: leadership isn’t about titles, it’s about character.
Grateful for the perspective, the challenge, and the reminder that how we lead matters just as much as where we lead.

The Downtown Exchange Club, we had the privilege of hearing from Dr. Kevon Owen, whose work sits at the important intersection of mental health and the legal system.

Dr. Owen shared thoughtful insights about collaborative approaches between mental health professionals and the courts, approaches designed to reduce prolonged conflict and help families move toward healthier, more durable outcomes. His perspective reminds us that when legal professionals and mental health experts work together, we create space for solutions that keep the well-being of children at the center.

In a system that can sometimes become adversarial by design, it is encouraging to see professionals dedicated to building bridges, promoting understanding, and helping families navigate difficult transitions with greater stability and care.

Thank you, Dr. Owen, for sharing your expertise and for the work you do to support families, courts, and communities. We are grateful for your leadership and for the conversation you sparked with the Downtown Exchange Club.
