UPDATE (4 p.m. 6/18/26): We previously shared inaccurate information about the I-44/NW Expressway/Classen Circle project. See the plan below for what to expect in this area.

• Starting Monday, June 22, at 8 p.m., eastbound I-44 will be narrowed to one lane near the eastbound NW Expressway on-ramp. This is to install a temporary barrier wall for the construction zone and will last until 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 23.
• At 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, we will reopen one of those lanes, and eastbound I-44 will be narrowed to two lanes for the duration of the project (spring 2027).
• The eastbound NW Expressway on-ramp to eastbound I-44 will remain open, but drivers will have a shorter merge area.

This Oklahoma Department of Transportation project is to rehab the eastbound I-44 bridge over Classen Circle and the eastbound I-44 off-ramp bridge to Western Avenue.

Between backyard hangouts, quick drive-thru stops, and snacks on the go, summer creates a lot of “throw it away later” moments.

Just make sure it doesn’t go in Big Green.

Keep plastic bags, wrappers, chip bags and styrofoam cups out of recycling.

Tell me why, starting tomorrow (June 18) at 10 a.m., May Avenue traffic at Northwest Expressway will be diverted to the temporary asphalt detour. It's because big changes are happening, including the removal of the May Avenue bridge. Drivers, use extra caution. Let's all promise to practice patience and kindness as this much-needed construction takes place.

Traffic at May Avenue and Northwest Expressway will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal during the removal and construction of the May Avenue bridge.
