Oklahoma City Animal Welfare promotes and protects the health, safety, and welfare of pets and people in OKC. Each year, we serve more than 24,000 animals and provide sheltering services for Del City and Tinker Air Force Base. Our team handles adoptions, lost and found pets, and responds to reports of animal cruelty, injured animals, loose dogs, and nuisance or dangerous animals, enforcing OKC’s a

"Charlie’s adoption has been such a wonderful success story! From day one, he settled right in and quickly became the heart of our home. He is the sweetest boy with the goofiest personality, and he keeps us laughing every single day.

Whether he’s doing his silly zoomies, making the funniest faces, or flopping down in the most dramatic sleeping positions, Charlie always knows how to make us smile. He is full of love, cuddles, and just the right amount of goofy chaos.

We are so thankful to the shelter for bringing Charlie into our lives. He has been the perfect addition to our family, and it truly feels like he has always belonged here. Thank you for giving us the chance to adopt such a sweet, lovable boy.

In observance of Juneteenth our shelter will be closed this Friday the 19th.

Did you know you can still adopt a pet even when our doors are closed? 🐶🐱

You can reach out directly to our foster families who are caring for amazing pets ready to go into a forever home of their own 🐾. The best part is these pets have been able to show their true personality outside of a shelter kennel.

Help us find their forever homes. Reach out today 📧 at [email protected] with the identification number of the foster pet you want to get to know. That way you can still adopt a friendly pet this Friday even if our shelter is closed for the day.

Gibson is hanging out in the coordinator's office enjoying a much-needed break from kennel life.

Shelter life has been tough on this big guy. Gibson gets very stressed in his kennel, and that stress has started showing up as chewing on the kennel walls. But the moment he's out? Completely different dog.

Gibson is a laid-back 7-year-old who loves stretching out in a classic pittie frog sprawl and soaking up the good life. He's treat-motivated, knows how to sit, and will happily show off his "shake" for a snack. At 7 years old, he's at that perfect age--past the puppy chewing phase but still ready to be your adventure buddy, couch companion, and best friend.

If you've been on our adventures, chances are you've seen David out there with our pups!

David has joined us for nearly every Wednesday walk, helping brighten the lives of shelter dogs one stroll at a time. Whether he's walking a dog that pulls like a freight train, a dog that wants nothing more than to stop and snuggle, or a dog that's already a leash-walking pro, David is always happy to help.

He doesn't mind the challenges, the slobber, or the extra-long walks—because he genuinely loves them all. Our dogs look forward to these outings, and people like David make them possible. Thank you, David, for giving your time, patience, and kindness to so many deserving dogs. We appreciate you more than you know!

🐶💼 Meet Darla, our newest volunteer!

Well... not officially. Darla showed up in the volunteer shirt and immediately started interviewing for the position. Her qualifications include giving kisses, accepting treats, making people smile, and looking adorable in shelter apparel.

Unfortunately for Darla, she's hoping for a different job title: Forever Family Member! Darla is currently available for adoption and would love to trade in her volunteer shirt for a couch of her own.

Want to help dogs like Darla while they wait for their forever homes? We're always looking for volunteers! Whether you can walk dogs, help at events, take photos, or simply spend time with shelter pets, every little bit makes a difference.
