🚒 Third-Alarm Apartment Fire 🚨

Oklahoma City firefighters battled a fast-moving, third-alarm apartment fire today involving three of four apartment buildings within a two-story apartment complex. When firefighters arrived, fire was already heavily involved in two apartment buildings. Because each building had an open common attic space, the fire quickly spread through the attic to a third building. Firefighters also worked aggressively to prevent the fire from spreading to the fourth building. Firefighters initially made an interior attack, rescuing two residents from the buildings and assisting two others with evacuation. All four apartment buildings were evacuated as conditions rapidly deteriorated. With heavy fire involvement, multiple areas of the buildings collapsing, and portions of the structures becoming unsafe, firefighters were pulled from the buildings and transitioned to defensive operations. Crews used aerial apparatus from the exterior to apply large amounts of water to the fire. Once the main body of fire was knocked down, firefighters moved back through the buildings to locate and extinguish any remaining fire. Despite the challenging conditions, including temperatures reaching 102 degrees, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control.
The good news is there were no injuries to residents or firefighters. Nearly 30 Oklahoma City Fire Department resources responded to the incident. The fire resulted in a third-alarm response due to the extensive fire involvement across three separate apartment buildings. The fire damaged three separate apartment buildings and a total of 46 apartment units, 30 of which were occupied. Approximately 50 people will be displaced because of the fire. Our Community Service Liaison is working with the American Red Cross of Oklahoma to assist residents who were displaced and help ensure they have a safe place to stay. Fire investigators responded to the scene and launched an investigation. The fire is considered suspicious and remains under investigation. The Oklahoma City Police Department assisted with traffic control and supported our Fire Investigators at the scene. OG&E and Oklahoma Natural Gas also responded to assist with controlling utilities.
