**ANIMAL MOVEMENT RESTRICTION UPDATE**
While there has not been a confirmed case of New World Screwworm in Oklahoma, ODAFF continues to work closely with our partners at USDA to monitor its spread.

Please see the updated animal movement restrictions below.

New World Screwworm is an invasive pest that primarily infests livestock and wildlife but will infest any warm-blooded mammal. New World Screwworm does not impact food and the food supply is safe.

It is important to frequently inspect all livestock, pets and captive wildlife for signs of NWS.

Report any suspicious wounds or suspected cases of NWS immediately to your local veterinarian, local County Extension Agent, or the ODAFF State Veterinarian at 405-522-6141.

New World Screwworm has been confirmed in Texas. Now is the time to begin extra monitoring of livestock, pets and captive wildlife for this invasive pest.

It is important to note this does not impact food and the food supply is safe.

Headed to an infested state? Here's what you need to know:
1️⃣Any species traveling from an infested state, but not an infested zone, can enter Oklahoma with a CVI that includes a statement “All animals in shipment do not originate from or transit through a NWS Infested Zone.”

2️⃣Any species that originates from an infested zone will need to meet the movement requirements for the state of origin AND obtain a permit from the Oklahoma State Veterinarian’s office AND have a CVI that states “all animals listed were individually inspected and found free of wounds.”

🚨 With the recent detection of New World screwworm in a 3-week-old bovine in Zavala County, TX, USDA urges residents to contact your veterinarian right away if you see any suspicious wounds, maggots, or infestations in your animals or herd.

If you see signs of maggot infestations in live or very recently dead wild animals, especially in areas near the U.S./Mexico border, please call 866-4USDA-WS (866-487-3297) to report it to your local USDA Wildlife Services office.

We appreciate the support of Governor Kevin Stitt & the Oklahoma Legislature, who passed two key agriculture bills this session. Senate Bill 985 codifies the Local Food for Schools program and allows ODAFF to continue to build on the program designed to get fresh, locally produced foods into school districts across the state.

The program has provided $3.2 million to help more than 340 school districts provide locally sourced foods for student meals. More than 362,000 pounds of beef, 17,000 pounds of pork and more than 11,300 pounds of chicken have been served through the program. Senate Bill 1410 codifies the Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom program, ensuring ODAFF can continue providing agriculture-centric resources to Oklahoma teachers that are aligned with Oklahoma Academic Standards. The bill was created by ODAFF’S Agriculture Youth Council to make sure the next generation of Oklahomans know how food is produced and how important agriculture is in their daily life.
