Oklahoma City is helping first responders prepare for the moments when every second counts.

Last month, the Oklahoma Swiftwater Rescue Conference brought approximately 115 first responders from 14 states and two countries to RIVERSPORT OKC for hands-on swiftwater rescue training and competition. Through realistic, timed scenarios, teams tested their skills and learned how to respond under pressure, all in a controlled environment designed to identify what works before facing a real emergency.

RIVERSPORT OKC continues to provide a unique setting for first responders to train, learn from experienced instructors and strengthen their skills for when they’re needed most.

The Choctaw Nation Fieldhouse is coming to Devon Park. The $21 million, 30,000-square-foot indoor softball practice facility is funded through the 2025 bond program and will provide elite training and player development spaces. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce also provided an additional $8 million for stadium improvements.

The project aims to help secure the NCAA Women’s College World Series beyond 2035 and designate Devon Park as a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site.

With Oklahoma City preparing to serve as a staging site for softball and slalom paddle Olympic events in 2028, this is another exciting investment in the future of softball and sports in our community.
