Hey friends! WE NEED YOUR VOTE! 🧡

We are excited to share that City Rescue Mission has been named one of FIVE regional finalists for Chick-fil-A’s 2027 True Inspiration Awards™ — and we are the ONLY Oklahoma organization represented in our region!

That means City Rescue Mission will receive a grant of at least $35,000, with the opportunity to receive up to $200,000 to support our work helping neighbors move from homelessness to home.

Recently, Jarred received the keys to his own apartment after months of hard work and determination. Thanks to the stability he found at City Rescue Mission, he was able to focus on rebuilding his life and taking the next steps toward a brighter future.

"It isn’t just board work; it is heart work." — Dr. Stephanie Johnson

Dr. Stephanie Johnson, Senior Vice President and Senior Payment Services Operations Director at Bank of Oklahoma, N.A., serves on the City Rescue Mission Board of Directors.

Stephanie was drawn to City Rescue Mission by its belief that every person deserves a chance to stand tall again. That resonated with her own belief in building people up — professionally, personally and spiritually.

One of her favorite parts of serving on the board has been seeing the work firsthand.

"My favorite part has been witnessing transformation up close, the kind that doesn't always make headlines but absolutely changes lives. Sitting in rooms where hope is rebuilt, watching people rediscover their dignity and seeing staff pour themselves into this work with such sincerity has been a gift. Being able to serve alongside people who truly believe in second chances has reminded me, over and over, why community matters."

Stephanie says she is grateful for the opportunity to serve and doesn't take her seat on the board for granted.

She is especially proud of the women helping lead the Mission and the leadership team's commitment to making decisions with people at the center. Whether expanding services, strengthening programs or simply choosing to listen more deeply, Stephanie says the Mission has consistently leaned toward compassion while serving people with integrity and respect.

She also wants our community to understand that City Rescue Mission is about much more than meeting an immediate need.

"This is not just a shelter, it's a place of rebuilding, healing and genuine care. Real work is happening here every single day. People are finding stability, families are being restored and individuals who once felt forgotten are being reminded that they matter."

Summer may be over, but we're still thinking about the young people who spent part of it serving alongside us. 🧡

This summer, youth groups including Next Step Ministries and Alva First Christian Youth joined us at City Rescue Mission to serve in our kitchen, help behind the scenes and spend time with the people staying at the Mission.

One group made more than 300 sandwiches, prepared 20 gallons of fruit, sorted produce and helped prepare and serve meals for our neighbors. Another took on some behind-the-scenes work, organizing closets and donated items to help our day-to-day operations run more smoothly.

But some of the best moments happened between the tasks. Students and adults shared meals, stories and conversations with our clients and volunteers. They listened, asked questions and learned more about the people behind the work happening here every day.

Thank you to these groups for showing up ready to serve and for bringing so much joy with you. We're grateful for the time, energy and care you shared with our community.

And thank you to every young person who spent part of their summer serving others. We hope you left knowing that your time mattered.

What a great way to celebrate National Nonprofit Day! 🎉

City Rescue Mission was one of a dozen nonprofits invited to spend time with the team at the corporate offices of Express Employment International for their annual Nonprofit Partner Fair.

We had a great time sharing more about City Rescue Mission, answering questions and visiting with Express team members about the work happening right here in our community.

And they surprised us with even more generosity! Express made a donation to support each of the nonprofits participating in the fair, including City Rescue Mission.
