A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service team is staking out the Red River below Denison Dam, studying the movements of adult invasive carp and sampling for larvae.

We’re hiring a human dimensions specialist to bridge the gap between constituents and fish & wildlife management. This position will run focus groups, surveys, and public meetings turning social science data into actionable insights for decisionmakers.

We're also hiring a wildlife technician stationed at Eufaula WMA. This position will work to improve access and habitat on the area's 50,000 acres. They also assist with important wildlife surveys and provide assistance to area users.

Applications are open for the Oklahoma Habitat Enhancement Partnership! In this program, ODWC works with municipalities and partners to enhance local fishing opportunities. Our habitat team will work with three selected partners to place fishing structures and connect with matching funds.

Through this program, $25,000 has been invested in the of habitat in 5 lakes across Oklahoma in the past 2 years. These photos show the fish habitat team recently adding mossback structures to lakes in El Reno and Edmond as part of the program.

Free hunting weekend is coming up Sept. 5-6! No state license is required for residents to hunt those days, making it a great opportunity to take friends who may be interested.

Dove season opens on Sept. 1! Biologists are reporting good dove numbers across much of the state, with excellent numbers in some areas.

With each north wind, migrating doves continue to file into Oklahoma, while resident doves are beginning to congregate. Recently mowed or burned dove fields and areas with seed-producing native vegetation should be worth watching. Hunters will want to put in some legwork and scout these areas ahead of opening day.

If you’re using a hunting dog, make sure to watch for signs of overheating and provide plenty of water in the ongoing high temperatures.
