Troops to Teachers - Oklahoma

Troops to Teachers - Oklahoma Troops to Teachers assists eligible service members and veterans with transition into a second caree

Troops to Teachers was established in 1993 to assist transitioning service members and veterans in beginning new careers as K-12 teachers in public, charter, and Bureau of Indian Affairs Schools. The program provides counseling, employment facilitation and financial support services for eligible participants to help them meet education and licensing requirements to teach and subsequently secure em

ployment as a teacher. Since 1993, more than 20,000 veterans have successfully transitioned to a career in education. Since the inception of the program, oversight and funding have been shared between the Departments of Defense and Education. The National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2013 transferred program policy funding and oversight responsibilities back to the Department of Defense. The Troops to Teachers National Office, located within DANTES, the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support, is responsible for day to day operations and management of the program.
