Bringing parent and state system leaders together creates opportunities to discuss issues affecting Oklahoma children and families. OCCY’s Parent Partnership Board did just that today with Michael Williams, director of Child Welfare Services at Oklahoma Human Services.

Director Williams shared updates from Child Welfare Services, while parent leaders asked questions, raised concerns and shared perspectives shaped by their own experiences. Thank you to Director Williams for his time and for engaging with board members in the conversation.

Sometimes helping a family starts with a meal, a safe place to sleep or someone willing to help figure out what comes next, and that’s what our team saw during a recent visit to Hope House Guthrie. Hope House provides shelter, meals, clothing, recovery support, employment and transportation assistance, and other resources that help individuals and families through difficult times.

Visits like this help OCCY better understand what Oklahoma communities are facing, and through our work with committees, community partners, policymakers and others across the state, we can take what we learn and help turn it into action for Oklahoma’s children and families.

What does better training mean for Oklahoma’s children and families? ChildFirst® Oklahoma gives professionals involved in child abuse investigations the chance to learn, practice and strengthen the skills needed to conduct forensic interviews with children. OCCY made this five-day training available at no registration cost, helping more professionals bring those skills back to the communities they serve.

Oklahoma mental health and behavioral health professionals and social workers can deepen their understanding of this complex issue with nationally recognized experts during an APSAC-sanctioned virtual training, while earning Psychology CEUs and Level I and II certification credentials. OCCY is proud to congratulate Public Information Officer Robert Agnew on his election as an incoming Member-at-Large of the Children's Trust Fund Alliance Board of Directors, beginning January 1, 2027. The Alliance is the only national organization dedicated to supporting state children’s trust and prevention funds and brings together professionals from across the country to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect before it occurs.

Rob’s service provides an opportunity to bring Oklahoma’s experience to the table, learn from work happening in other states, and strengthen connections that can help inform our work on behalf of Oklahoma’s children and families. OCCY recently partnered with the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) to bring Connect With Effect: Outreach Training to family support professionals from across Oklahoma.

Facilitated by the National Family Support Network, the training focused on practical strategies for reaching and engaging families, strengthening outreach efforts and building meaningful connections within our communities.

Thank you to OSDH, our facilitators and everyone who joined us. The training gave professionals and organizations working alongside Oklahoma families an opportunity to connect and learn from one another.

We recently brought OCCY staff together for a daylong work session at Diversion Hub. We reviewed proposed policy updates, shared agency updates and talked through how our priorities and responsibilities connect across different areas of OCCY.

Diversion Hub donated the meeting space and gave us a tour of its Oklahoma City facility. Staff showed us how they work alongside community partners to help justice-involved individuals and families find several services in one place. Seeing that work firsthand gave us a better understanding of the barriers families face and the value of coordinating services.

After the work session wrapped up and the formal agenda was complete, staff were invited to gather at The SoundBar. At The SoundBar, staff shared the songs and artists that energize them, inspire hope or hold personal meaning. Music gave us an easy way to start conversations and get to know one another outside our usual roles.

Thank you to Diversion Hub and The Sound Bar for welcoming us. The day gave us time to focus on how we do our work, learn from a community partner and strengthen the relationships that help us serve Oklahoma’s children, youth and families.
