We’re only one day away from the hybrid striped bass harvest at H.B. Parsons Fish Hatchery. It’s always exciting to see the hard work pay off as these fish head to Lake Hefner and Lake Overholser to boost local fishing opportunities.

Before our Fisheries Management team can stock OKC’s Fishable Waters, they first harvest the rearing ponds at the H.B. Parsons Fish Hatchery. Draining the ponds slowly helps staff safely corral the fish — but it also makes the fish an easy target for hungry egrets and herons.
Luckily, River the Hatchery Dog is always on duty! River patrols the ponds and keeps those sneaky birds from snagging an easy meal.

Could you help us find the family of this friendly dog? He is a very nice puppy. He is neutered, groomed, knows basic commands, is leash trained, but has no collar. He turned up at the hatchery early this morning and has been taken to Animal Wellfare OKC at 2821 SE 29th St. Their number is 4052973100.

Thank you, Oklahoma City Police Athletic League, for the boatload of youth fishing rods! Over the course of this year these rods will be given out to all the youths that participate in our Kids Hooked on Fishing Derbies.
