Happy Birthday, F81! Established in November of 1946, the Okemah Municipal Airport is home to the largest city in the county seat of Okfuskee County. Just in time to commemorate the airports 78th year of serving the flying community, the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics awarded a State Grant to the City of Okemah for the airport to construct a new 8-Unit T Hangar and box hangar. During the system plan update of the Oklahoma Airport System conducted a few years ago, the first and most urgent need identified was to build hangars to be able to start the flow of federal funding again for Okemah Municipal Airport and achieve a better long-term financial plan to sustain and upgrade infrastructure for the new airport location. We are wrapping up our taxilane project to help enable hangar development We welcome the pilot community to come grow with us! Watch us fly in 2025! Okemah has a similar story to many Oklahoma airports in that in the early 2000s the need to expand the airport became apparent based on existing and future aviation demand. With the location of the airport unable to expand the city began to take the necessary steps to look to relocate the airport. In 2006, our community invested their available federal funds in various infrastructure items with the eventual runway (3,400 ft) opening by 2013. The next step in the process for Okemah after building the runway was to build 10 hangars, install an AvGas fuel system, and construct a small terminal building. The airport has been used regularly by visitors and agricultural sprayers that are temporarily based at the facility, with no hangar storage, it’s impossible to attract permanent aircraft to be housed at the airport. Welcome to the Okemah Airport! We have a 3400 ft runway located just off Interstate 40 with easy access to the City. We invite all aircraft/airmen to fly in or stop by for a visit. Okemah’s Airport is in the development phase which will include Hangers, lounge, bathrooms, a training room, security gate, ample parking and a credit card operated fuel facility. Our airport has ample space for development for any aviation industry looking to locate along the I-40 corridor.

Located in the Hub of Oklahoma’s Aviation Industry, just 65 miles east of Oklahoma City and 70 miles south of Tulsa. Both Oklahoma City and Tulsa have multiple Aviation businesses. In our area Holdenville, Seminole, and Okemah have existing aviation businesses located within the cities. With Okemah currently developing the airport’s infrastructure, it is the perfect time to establish your business here. Training and employee development programs are available from the Wes Watkins Technology Center and is something we can custom develop to suit your needs.
