Good evening Folks, just FYI:

I want to make sure my message from last night is better understood. The Warming Shelters will only be open if we are asked for them to be open. If there is no power at either church they cannot be opened. If we start having power outages then they probably will not be open. there are no backup generators at either location. Please do not wait to ask for help this weather is not the time or place to try to survive with little or no heat. If you are in need, please ask your friends, neighbors or call 911 of its an Emergency.

Jim Copeland, Okfuskee Co. EM

01/23/2026

Ok Folks I’m posting here as well as regular face book page. If we need warming shelters we are working with Pastor Edmonstein and the Pastor at First Baptist in Okemah to open up for Warming Shelters. You can contact me at 918-623-6077 or Kimberly at Okemah City Hall to request a need for a Warming shelter.

This is no ordinary Snow / Ice Event. We are looking at snow/sleet/ ice that may last off and on for 48 hrs. The Temperature will be in the low single digits to the -12 to -15 degree temperatures. This will last 4 days or more. It is imperative to have your family and friends (if the need arises) to be protected from these conditions.

Stay Safe and monitor the weather as often as you possibly can
