The Village of Okawville would like to inform citizens about an increased enforcement of Ordinance Violations this spring. The village is dedicated to ensuring community safety, maintaining property standards, and preserving public order. This initiative will specifically focus on regulations of property maintenance and parking.

Grass and weeds must be shorter than 8" at all times.

Grass cannot be blown onto sidewalks or onto the streets when cutting.

The burning of yard waste only is allowed between the hours of 10 AM and sunset; no burning is allowed along curbs, in ditches, on sidewalks, or on streets. All leaves, sticks, etc should be dry when burning, and an adult must be present as long as there is a fire. There is also a place to take yard waste north of Okawville (Waterworks Road) about a mile and half past the interstate.

All vehicles must be licensed, titled, insured, and road worthy.

Issues related to property maintenance, such as the accumulation of junk and debris, overgrown grass and vegetation, and the presence of inoperable, abandoned, disassembled, or dilapidated appliances, machinery, or vehicles, will not be tolerated. Violations may result in a minimum fine of $100. For a complete list of the Village Ordinances, please visit: www.myokawville.com

Also, there have been NO permits for solicitation issued by the Village of Okawville. If a permit for solicitation is issued, there will be notification on the sign in front of Village Hall as well as on Facebook, listing the company and dates the solicitation is permitted. Please contact the non-emergency police line at 618-243-6121 and press 4 to report solicitors.

Okawville is a close-knit, rural town centrally located between St. Louis and Mt. Vernon close to Scott Air Force Base. Live in a town with a supportive community and school.

This is a service provided by a local resident. We are so blessed to have them do this for the children in the community.

Theme Selected For 2025 Wheat Festival Parade

The theme of the 2025 Okawville Wheat Festival Parade will be ‘Favorite Commercials-Old and New’.

Examples come from many sources, including insurance (Mayhem man, Jake from State Farm), candy, snacks, cereal(Life-Hey Mikey!), alcohol(Miller Lite), implements.

Organizations, churches, businesses, and families are invited to put a float in the parade. Those entering a decorated theme-related float will receive a stipend of $100. This applies to any float eligible for competition, not just the top five winners.

For your convenience, the parade committee is asking anyone wanting to enter a float or commercial vehicle to register online. Please go to www.OkawvilleWheatFestival.com to complete the form. The deadline to register is Thursday September 12th at noon. There are just a few questions that you will need to complete, just as when you call. If you do not have access to a computer, you may contact Janine Brammeier 618-243-9914 to leave a message. Anyone wanting to ride a horse should contact Sue Lehde 618-424-7735.

The 2025 Fair and Wheat Festival will be held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, September 12, 13 and 14. The parade will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. Visit the Wheat Festival website for more information closer to the date.

Get information about the 2025, Okawville Wheat Festival Fair & Parade. Have some family fun with rides, a parade, live music, and tasty food and drinks Friday, September 12 through Sunday, September 14 at the Okawville Community Park, Okawville, Illinois.

The kiddie parade is back at the Okawville Wheat Festival this year, in which children decorate their bikes and wagons and walk the parade route.

The parade will be held on Saturday, September 13. There is no registration. Line up will begin at 10:30 am on the south side of the former Streuters building in the parking area. Parade will begin at 11:00am. The parade will continue down Front street to the south entrance to the park.

Entrants must be 8th grade and younger. They are encouraged to decorate a bicycle, wagon, stroller, skateboard, Razor or simply walk the route. Parents of small children should accompany them during the parade. Please, no electric or gas powered vehicles. The parade is not judged but be creative and have fun making something together!
