Charge into Fire Safety™ this Fire Prevention Week! Lithium-ion batteries power the devices we use every day—but not all charging methods are safe. To help prevent fires, always use the charging cables that came with your device. Faulty or off-brand chargers can overheat and increase fire risk. Protect your home and loved ones: Buy safe, charge safe, and recycle batteries safely.

Stay safe in every charge! 🔋🔥

Did you know? Lithium-ion batteries have caused increasing numbers of home fires in recent years. Safety starts with smart charging habits.

🚨 Open Air Burn Ban – Effective Immediately 🚨

The Washington County Sheriff's Office, Nashville, Illinois, along with the majority of Fire Districts in Washington County, has enacted an Open Air Burn Ban due to ongoing dry conditions.
Until further notice, all outdoor burning is prohibited.

❌ What’s NOT allowed:

• Recreational fires (yes, even the backyard s’mores kind)
• Brush fires
• Burning leaves or garbage
• Carelessly discarding cigarette butts

What IS allowed (with safety in mind):
• Backyard BBQs and non-commercial cooking in a safe, enclosed area
• Outdoor welding or “hot work” following fire code rules

Special Notes:

• We understand some folks may need to complete a controlled (prescribed) burn. In these cases, you must first call Washington County Telecommunications at 618-327-8274 Ext. 4 and your local fire department for permission.

• If you see someone burning during the ban, please do not call 911 unless it is an immediate, life-threatening emergency. For non-emergent reports, use the non-emergency number 618-327-8274 Ext. 4.

This ban helps protect our firefighters, our community, and our homes. We’ll lift it as soon as it’s safe, but until then, please help us prevent avoidable emergencies.
