On this night, 25 years ago, 246 people went to sleep preparing for their morning flights.
2,606 people went to sleep preparing for work the next morning.
343 firefighters went to sleep preparing for their next shift.
60 police officers went to sleep preparing for morning patrol.
8 paramedics went to sleep preparing for another day of saving lives.
None of them knew they would not see past the morning of September 11, 2001.
In a single moment, life can change forever.
As we live our lives and enjoy the breaths we are blessed to take today, and as we go to sleep tonight preparing for tomorrow, remember what truly matters. Kiss the ones you love. Hug your family a little tighter. Tell people you love them. Make the phone call. Forgive. Spend the time. Never take a single moment for granted.
And let us never forget that the impact of September 11 did not end that day. Remember the first responders, survivors, recovery workers, and their families who have spent the past 25 years dealing with the aftermath—including those battling cancer and other illnesses, and the families who have lost loved ones in the years since.
Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost, honor those who ran toward danger, and pray for everyone who continues to carry the scars of that day.
