Ojai loves the Independence Day parade, and we know how much families look forward to securing their favorite viewing spots. As you prepare, the City of Ojai wants to share a friendly community reminder regarding lawn chairs along the route.

Please ensure all chairs, blankets and all other personal items respect ADA compliance and do not block public sidewalks, walkways or pedestrian pathways. Our walkways must remain clear so our neighbors who use wheelchairs, strollers or walking assist devices can navigate the city safely. Items positioned in the right of way are at risk of being removed.

A special City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 16 at 6 p.m., where the Council may take further action on this topic.

Thank you for helping keep Ojai accessible and welcoming for everyone!

When an emergency occurs, preparation is our best defense. We are proud to celebrate our latest Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) graduates, who completed 24 hours of specialized training in fire safety, medical operations and hazard awareness. 🎓

These dedicated volunteers are now equipped with the skills and gear necessary to support Ojai during wildfires, floods or other disasters. If you are interested in joining free future training sessions, please contact the Ventura County Fire Department CERT Coordinator, Steve Lazenby, at [email protected] or 805-794-6094.

The Ojai City Council has approved the city’s second affordable housing project of 2026. Partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County, the five-unit, single-story development will provide long-term, affordable homeownership opportunities for eligible lower-income families. 🏠

To ensure the project directly benefits the local population, Habitat for Humanity will prioritize individuals who currently live and work in Ojai.

Following recent community outreach with the Franklin Drive neighborhood about the project, the city is also implementing traffic-calming measures to enhance safety. A new three-way stop will be installed at Montgomery Street and Franklin Drive, along with new crosswalks and high-visibility red curb markings, all coordinated with the upcoming summer paving schedule. 🚧

Stay tuned for updates on upcoming groundbreaking ceremonies later this year for both this development and the permanent supportive housing project approved in April!
