The mild weather lingering over Sulphur Mountain is allowing some spring blooms to continue. Around 6 miles up, on the shaded side of the mountain there are some terrific patches of collinsia (Chinese lanterns, houses) along with some other interesting plants still in bloom. What's your favorite this week?

Hope you are enjoying the pleasant weather. Sulphur Mountain is starting to green up. Who knows the identity of this native perennial? Clues include: this specimen was seen roughly 7/8 of a mile from the bottom gate, it greens up after spring rains. The flowers are insignificant and small, white color with a delicate scent.

This winter's generous rains have given Sulphur Mountain Toyon bushes vigorous growth. The white flowers will produce reddish orange toyon berries this fall. These pictures were taken about 3/4 mile from the lower gate on the left hillsides as you climb the road.
