πŸ•·οΈπŸŒ² TICK SAFETY REMINDER πŸŒ²πŸ•·οΈ

With warmer weather here and many of us spending more time outdoors, the Cornplanter Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind everyone to protect themselves and their families from ticks.

βœ… After coming indoors from wooded, grassy, or brush-covered areas:

πŸ‘• Remove and inspect your clothing for ticks.

🧺 Place clothing in a dryer on high heat for at least 10 minutes to help kill any ticks that may be hiding.

🚿 Shower as soon as possible after being outdoors. This can help wash away unattached ticks and gives you a chance to do a thorough tick check.

πŸ” Carefully check your entire body, paying special attention to:
β€’ Behind the knees
β€’ Under the arms
β€’ Around the waist
β€’ In and around the ears
β€’ Along the hairline and scalp

πŸ• Don't forget to check your pets, as ticks can hitch a ride indoors on dogs and cats.

Early detection and removal of ticks can help reduce the risk of tick-borne illnesses, including Lyme disease.

Enjoy the outdoors, but take a few extra minutes when you come inside to protect yourself and your family.

⚠️ Severe Thunderstorm Response – Thank You to Our Community ⚠️

This afternoon’s severe thunderstorms left a path of damage across our area, bringing down large trees, blocking roadways, damaging property, and creating hazardous conditions throughout the community.

The members of the Cornplanter Volunteer Fire Department responded to multiple incidents during the storm, working alongside fellow first responders and emergency personnel to help keep our residents safe. Crews were busy clearing roadways, assessing hazards, and assisting where needed as the storm moved through the region.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the citizens who remained patient during emergency operations, reported hazards promptly, and checked on their neighbors during and after the storm. Community support plays a vital role during events like these.

We also want to recognize and thank all of the first responders, utility crews, dispatchers, public works personnel, and emergency management partners who worked together throughout the afternoon to address the impacts of the storm.

As cleanup continues, please remain cautious around downed trees, damaged structures, and any utility lines. If you encounter a hazardous situation, report it to the appropriate authorities and avoid putting yourself at risk.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our community safer today.

Radar is starting to show some development in Ohio. Stay alert for rapid changes

πŸŒ©οΈπŸš’ WEATHER WATCH vs. WEATHER WARNING πŸš’πŸŒ©οΈ

We often hear the terms "Watch" and "Warning," but what do they really mean?

🐻 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Think of it like this:

You hear there's a bear wandering around the neighborhood. 🐻

You haven't seen it yet, but you're probably not going outside in flip-flops to investigate.

A WATCH means conditions are right for severe weather to develop. Stay alert and keep an eye on the sky.

🐻😳 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

Now the bear is standing in your backyard, looking through your kitchen window.

That's a WARNING.

A WARNING means severe weather is occurring or imminent. It's time to take action and move to a safe location.

β›ˆοΈ With the potential for storms this afternoon, now is a great time to:
βœ”οΈ Charge your phones
βœ”οΈ Secure loose outdoor items
βœ”οΈ Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts
βœ”οΈ Review your emergency plan

Stay weather aware, Cornplanter! We'll be keeping an eye on conditions and are ready to respond if needed.
